Reversed copy of the armadillo as printed in the French edition of Pierre Belon, Observations (Antwerp, Plantin, 1555). For the Latin edition of 1589, new woodcuts had to be made, since Plantin had lost the first series at the print shop's auction in 1562. However, this armadillo was replaced by a completely new image (MPM.HB.03934) for the 1589 edition.
