The foundations of the Hansa House were exposed during construction of the Mueseum aan de Stroom/MAS. The original building dated from 1564-1568. Following the departure of the German merchants at the end of the sixteenth century, the building was used secessively from the seventeenth century onwards as a warehouse, barracks, military hospital and Protestant church. In 1884, the city renovated it to become an industrial grain warehouse, but at the end of 1893 the building was destroyed by fire.
