Cruciform hieroglyph on the Flaminio Obelisk in Rome
Description
The obelisk was erected in the 13th century BC commissioned by Pharaoh Seti I, but was completed under his successor Ramses II. His son Merenptah is also mentioned on the hieroglyphs. The obelisk originally stood in Heliopolis in front of the temple of the sun god Ra. In 10 BC Emperor Augustus transferred the obelisk of Seti I and another one of Psammetichus II to Rome, where the first was placed on the spina of Circus Maximus for decoration.
