This is the ninth print in the series illustrating the Story of King David and represents Saul aiming a javelin at David. The print was published in 1575 through the collaboration between Christopher Plantin and Philips Galle, and is dedicated to King Philip II. The inscription is by Benito Arias Montano, and the design is after Gerard van Groeningen, while the engraver remains anonymous.
The scene is associated with the virtue expressed in the upper margin: “Circumspecta virtus” (Circumspect Virtue).
In the lower margin appears the inscription: “Officiosa pij ... alma suos.”.
