This is the eighth print in the series illustrating the Story of King David and represents David and Jonathan. The print was published in 1575 through the collaboration between Christopher Plantin and Philips Galle, and is dedicated to King Philip II. The inscription is by Benito Arias Montano, and the design is after Gerard van Groeningen, while the engraver remains anonymous.
The scene is associated with the virtue expressed in the upper margin: “Humanar opus” ( The Work of Man). In the lower margin appears the inscription: “Virtus vera ... vivere consilio.”.
