First illustration of the series of printed illustrations engraved by Edmond Charpy and printed by Thomas de Leu, used to illustrate the book Passion del Hombre‑Dios: referida y ponderada en décimas españolas / por el maestro Iuan Dávila, written by the Madrid Jesuit Juan Bautista Dávila and published in Lyon in 1661 with the financial support of Horacio Boissat, Gorge Remeus, Claudio Bourgeat, and Miguel Lietard. The scene showing Christ entering Jerusalem is a reversed copy after an invention by Maerten de Vos (see Hollstein Dutch and Flemish Etchings, Engravings and Woodcuts 1450–1700, XLIV Maarten de Vos, Text, p. 106, no. 460).
In the lower part of the engraving appear the signatures of Edmond Charpy and Thomas de Leu. Beneath the image the following inscription is printed: “Gloria hosanna in excelsis”. On the left, the intended placement of the illustration within the book is indicated (Lib. 1. Fol. 1.).
