This is the third print in the series illustrating the Story of King David and represents David brought before Samuel. The print was published in 1575 through the collaboration between Christopher Plantin and Philips Galle, and is dedicated to King Philip II. The inscription is by Benito Arias Montano, and the design is after Gerard van Groeningen, while the engraver remains anonymous.
The scene is associated with the virtue expressed in the upper margin: “Modestia probata” (Proven Modesty).
In the lower margin appears the inscription: “Deligitur dignus, ... fulta Deo.”.
